Reviews:
Friendly service in a small but cozy restaurant. Ramen for lunch was decently priced, black garlic ramen $16.99 and aka-oni house ramen $17.99. Both were delicious, great portion sizes, and the house ramen had a nice kick to it
We love Yakotori there. So so good. Customer service was extremely good!
A nice secondary option to their location at times square. The food quality and service are just as good.
食物质数及味道都好很好, 价钱上都很合理, 环境及卫生都很好, 值得再次到访
Came to AKA-ONI for the first time last night and am super happy I stumbled upon this place. We came for a late dinner last night and everything we got was delicious. We ordered the grilled mackerel, beef sukiyaki, and Angus beef teridon. The service was amazing as well. Will definitely be back!
I visited this place multiple times, and never disappointed on their food and services! Doesn’t matter if it’s raw food (sushi/sashimi), cooked food or bbq skewers, everything tastes excellent!
I love me some ramen, I can't get enough of it!!! The staff is incredibly friendly and the food was astounding. I may be biased as ramen is one of my favorite meals to eat. If you're in the mood to try something that I think should be more of a go to food try this location!
Best Japanese kitchen I have ever tried.
Superb quality, awesome presentation of the food and the atmosphere felt authentic.
Bonus:open late 🌟
We will definitely come back
Have been here twice now. Great place to go with a small or medium sized group of friends. Amazing alcoholic beverage choices and lots of sharable foods.
In general the restaurant has an amazing atmosphere, the food was tasty, excellent, and pretty good presentation, and no words for the service!!
They took my, very late night , near closing - order and were so kind to do it.
As someone with past-server guilt. .. I felt so bad ordering late.
They were waiting for me , for my single order - nothing special to stay open for and greeted me by name when I arrived. The salmon avacdo roll was exactly what I wanted. And the little tough of the mini take away bottle of soy sauce was perfect.
It was excellent , the staff was even better.
They have the best customer service. I had ramen and it was delicious. Best atmosphere and the place is clean. Highly recommend.
Went with a friend for lunch. The place was empty, like not a single other customer. Just my friend and myself.
They had no menus, just the QR scan code.
We got some dumplings and wontons..all amazing. Definitely a place I would go back to.
The food was amazing, fresh, clean and even sprinkled in gold, visually beautiful, textures and flavors were perfect. Enjoy!
Just went there again yesterday, great food and friendly staff. Had the Angus beef rice, oyster bomb and the new beef bone ramen.
Best Japanese restaurant experience I have ever had in Scarborough. Great food and customer service. Clean washroom. I will definitely visit again.
You will Not be disappointed here. Fresh sashimi and unique dishes that will have you wanting to order more. I have been here many times and always had a great experience. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive.
The Super Spider roll is a magical assortment of flavors. They also have a lobster roll which I can't get enough of. Sashimi tray is a must here with fresh thick cut pieces.
We had originally visited the Richmond Hill location as walk ins looking for a table of 2 around 6:15pm. The restaurant was very busy and was booked until 8pm. The host let us know there was a second location available in Scarborough just about 20 mins drive away. He had offered to help us book a reservation on his iPad for 7pm to give us enough travel time. We were super impressed with him going the extra mile. We would have easily have gone to another restaurant in the same Plaza.
Once we arrived at the Scarborough location, we were immediately greeted and seated at our table. Our table was directly across the service terminal and so our table had the privacy screen (other tables didn't have this). Super impressed with the attention of detail thus far, and this definitely carries over to the food they serve.
We splurged a little bit as it was a celebration dinner for us. Ordered takowasa, oyster bomb, a sashimi platter (16pcs), nankotsu skewers, Uni Hotate Carpaccio, blind box, otoro sushi. This was the perfect amount of food for us, leaning on the I may have ordered too much, but this tastes amazing side.
I was intrigued the wasabi when they brought it out. I believe it is real grinded up wasabi, not the powder kind or the kind you get out of the tube.
Takowasa. This dish offers a rather interesting texture as it is served with wasabi beans.
Uni Hotate Carpaccio is served with fresh uni and scallops. It is also garnished with a single red peppercorn on each serving which I found was an interesting season to the dish and complements it well.
I was most impressed with the value of the blind box. This dish consists of 8 small plates of 4 appetizers (2 each). Each appetizer was very delicious and it was a good variety / sample of food. There was one particular dish that was sashimi bits that tasted it was starting become less fresh. It was acceptable fish - not wow, didn't smell like a food poisoning is going to happen later but definitely make you pause and go hmmm... This is not their usual quality. I suppose that is the intent of the blind box so the restaurant can cycle through bits of food and not waste it.
The o-toro was unfortunately not the same level of marbling as I had expected but none the less, good quality fish. To be fair to them, I was comparing to a restaurant I had tried in Seattle (and after I returned to Toronto, I could not have sushi for 2 months because of the stark difference in quality that was accessible to me.)
The sashimi platter is very fresh quality. I especially enjoyed the thick cuts they have to offer here.
At the end of our meal we were also offered complimentary ice cream as well. They had matcha or yuzu when we visited.
Yes, price tag is a bit high for all the food we had ordered, but you definitely pay for what you get, there are also other options that wouldn't be as expensive like ramen and other dishes which are in the $20 range. I would most definitely be back to try out their other cooked dishes.
The sushi was very fresh and reasonably priced. There's even a sake sommelier in case you need advice.
Great sushi place. Ramen was eh for the price. But the sushi was great. Not to say the ramen was bad, but for the “decent quality” it felt a bit pricy.
Aka-Oni is a hidden gem in the world of Japanese Izakai. The display of Sake bottles greets you, setting the tone for a unique experience. The interior features captivating Japanese elements, adding to the ambiance. The quick and efficient service enhanced our visit. The Black Garlic Ramen was fantastic, while the Minced Salmon Don, though a good choice, left a bit too much rice behind. However, the true star was the Wagyu Tataki, a pricier appetizer that stole the spotlight. The Wagyu melted like butter, and the Parmesan cheese added a perfect savory touch. Aka-Oni is a must-try, tucked away in this plaza. Highly recommended!
Yummy ramen bowls and tried the seafood sukiyaki (big portion with alot of veggies!)! Cute decoration and great service!
This place is so good! Came on a Saturday night. The restaurant is small with limited seating. It was pretty busy, but they were able to sit us right away. The servers were very nice and provided us recommendations and answered our questions. We got the wagyu uni roll. It was $50 for one roll, but so worth it. We also got the Angus Teridon, oyster skewer, chicken bone skewer and Lychee Sake. Overall experience was wonderful. Will definitely come back.
Sushi and sashimi were AMAZING. I’ve had sushi and sashimi at multiple restaurants and at Aka Oni, it’s unbeatable. Ramen and udon dishes were ok, had better, but wasn’t bad.
Great sashimi. I also took the Toro O & Foi-Gras sushi. Both were wonderful and fairly priced. Will be back. The mixes sashimi bowl was the highlight
Best sashimi and sushi in town. Lots of variety, high end quality fish. Creative rolls you don’t get at other places like the one with caviar and gold flakes. Great service. Price a bit high but worth splurging once in a while
Hands down best Japanese food. Amazing Service, amazing food, amazing decor and vibes. It's an hour drive for me and soooo worth it!!
