This is my first formal visit to this long-established restaurant since living in Vancouver for over 15 years. After tasting their dishes, I was genuinely thrilled and felt like I had missed out for so long. It’s rare to find a restaurant that still takes their work seriously in 2023. Every dish is delicious, and I don’t want to use any other adjectives because there’s no need—they’re simply delicious! I sympathize with the restaurant being understaffed, but I understand the trade-offs of running a restaurant. I think the service is five-star, but I have to dock a star for the speed of service, and I’m sorry for that. I sincerely hope everyone can give this historic restaurant a chance. I heartily recommend it to everyone. Even the dessert here is made with extreme care and is delicious. You will not be disappointed!

The crispy pigeon, pipa tofu, and jellyfish chicken are truly delightful culinary experiences. However, it's worth noting that the service could benefit from additional staff, and the interior decor might benefit from a refreshing renovation to enhance the overall dining atmosphere.

This place has lots of tables to be seated. They have the beijing duck to choose from, and with combo.

The sweet and sour pork is okay, as I don't eat this dish so often.

The Gai Lan stir fry beef is good, as the beef is very soft and easy to chew, but the Gai Lan is a bit too big, smaller piece would be better

The King Doi pork is okay, as the bone is quite large, and the meat is a bit difficult to chew.

The Beijing duck might be a bit smaller than normal one, as the wrapper is not enough for everyone we seated, and the meat is too little as for the normal beijing duck

The deep fried tofu is a bit salty

The lettuce with the meat, is kind of too little meat

When we walked in on a weekday evening there were only 2 other tables (which explained why the parking lot had ample parking) so I was a bit scared. Why were they so empty? Had the food gone downhill? Did they change the menu? After our dinner here (8 ppl and a baby), I have absolutely no idea why it was so empty. People on Google complained of bad service but our experience was great. In fact, I was one of those ppl who could not figure out what to order and the server had to come back 3 separate times but she was perfectly kind and patient about it. She brought water and tea to the table and cleared and changed plates for us almost excessively lol. At the end of our meal, they didn't rush us and were super nice asking about the baby. The food was really good too! We had the duck two ways, chicken salad, salt and pepper tofu, black pepper beef fried noodles, lemon chicken, stir fried peatips and the complimentary dessert and everything was super tasty (sorry forgot to take photos of every dish). We had an out of town guest (from Alberta) who said this was the best Chinese meal she'd ever had. The restaurant itself is pretty barren so if you're looking for a hip/cool place to eat, this is probably not for you. But if you want good food and fast service, I would highly recommend this place.

Despite its long-established status, this restaurant exhibits signs of wear and tear, evident in the dated decor and worn furniture, indicating a pressing need for renovation.

Nevertheless, the consistent highlight remains the exceptional quality of its cuisine. This hidden gem within the realm of Chinese dining consistently delivers delectable dishes that never fail to impress. I wholeheartedly recommend that everyone experience the culinary delights this establishment has to offer.

Service was amazing. Even when they were  closing (3pm) after dim sum the waitress stayed back to tend to us without any complaints! Everyone was gone except us, She didn't even rush us , but we were still mindful of the time. Very kind and helpful to the kids that were at our table *treated them like an auntie would*

Update: went back again recently and the chicken salad was a fraction of the size I had before and the sauce is usually packed outside of the container but it was packed inside this time. Honestly felt like I got chinced...bad ?? and they said it's the half order  ....but I've always ordered half order and it never showed up in this.

To the people giving this place low reviews, please ignore them. Most of them are regarding the service and I feel like people really have unrealistic expectations. This place gets busy and as such, they may not be able to get back to your table as frequently or they may ignore you at the door for a few minutes but the food is worth it.

I came here with a couple friends to get some Peking duck. We did the two course with the second course as a fried rice but you can also get soup, lettuce wraps or other options with the price depending on your selection. I recommend that if you're coming here with friends and want to make sure that you get the food that you desire, to make a reservation and preorder the dishes that you would like to avoid disappointment. On busy nights, they tend to sell out of things like Peking duck and bbq.

There wasn't many people in the restaurant, so the service was excellent. The food quality and portion sizes excellent. The duck skin was crispy and tasty. We all over ate and still had enough for left overs.

Little hole in the wall that deserves more attention. I've ordered take out from this place twice and both times didn't disappoint. This second visit I noticed the dining room was quieter with only two gatherings of larger groups for the roomy space. Portions were good, and the food was tasty and ready on time. Ordering was fast, efficient and she calculated the cost ahead of time for me when I asked at the time of ordering. We ordered beef and broccoli chow mein, chili salt tofu, and stir fried beef rice noodles for the two of us, but we will definitely have leftovers for lunch the next day.

It's worth the price.
Best duck in Vancouver.
Chicken salad is sooo good.
Other dishes are really delicious.
Service can be slow at times but it's still friendly.
Would go back for sure!

Always our family top choice to go to when we want to celebrate with our family occasions. Food portions never change, same large amount and services are amazing. FOOD IS JUST DELICIOUS and fresh.

Wow the melon soup was full of complex flavours. The Peking duck is phenomenal and a must have.  The lobster was yummy too. A Vancouver institution. Highly recommended. Be prepared by not eating the whole day when you visit

Unassuming exterior with missing sign. But they have excellent food. Our favorite is the hand-shredded chicken salad with jellyfish and pickled veggies topped with fried crispy wonton skins. This dish is so good that we went out of our way to order it to go before our 3-hr trip home. Highly recommended!

Great food, fairly high prices for Van east and sub-par service when it gets busy.  Go in with those expectations it'll be a good meal.  Reservations recommended.  Some dishes need to ordered in advance

The dim sum is very good. The waitresses are very nice and friendly. When my elderly parents go by themselves, the ladies treat them with kindness. That is very important to me.

the food is too good for me to take pictures.  Unlike other Chinese restaurants, Koon Bo maintain its quality over decades.  It worths a five-star just for that reason.

Yes, they are understaff and somewhat disorganized, but regardless how busy they are, staff remains very friendly.  That also worths a five-star.

delicious food! Their squab is probably the best in the lower mainland (better than the other high end one which shall not be called out by name). Their meat patty dishes are also good as well as their signature shredded chicken dish. Recommend!

Their speciality old school recipe stuffed "8 Treasure Duck" is something you no longer see readily available at a regular Chinese restaurant anymore. Several of their pork dishes are very well executed too. Don't just judge this place because this is not a big joint...This is one of arguably the top three Chinese restaurant in midtown Vancouver.

Love their hand shredded chicken. A classic for dish for celebrating any holiday to share with family. Their takeout menu is quite generous with their portions.

Good food for a picky eater like me.  Best pigeon in town. But the signature shredded chicken tastes awful. Service is fantastic.  Price is good.  Don’t order set me u though.

Great place for excellent Chinese food.  They're known for their birds (duck, chicken and squab).  The food felt very fresh and clean--- not overly salty, greasy and gross like some other Chinese restaurants.  Parking can be a little difficult.  This place gets packed at peak meal times.  It's recommended to come earlier to avoid having to wait.  They have some dish stands that elevate the serving plates, which allows them to fit more dishes on the table.  Brilliant.

They have some great signature dishes. Shredded chicken appetizer plate is delicious. Squab is absolutely perfect. Slightly better service than your typical Chinese restaurant. Definitely on the list for my current Chinese restaurant rotation.

I have to get the hand shredded chicken every visit. I love the Peking duck but make sure you pre-order. Sometimes they run out. Their baked tapioca pudding dessert is also pretty awesome: Not too sweet and that pineapple bun topping that I love!

Qualities of food are still the same as before, tasty and there are several  dishes require preorder.  Those will only ready upon the customers' requests e.g. whole winter melon soup, good for 10 people and it's about $98. Also they give u large portion not like some of restaurants, price ranges for each is around $20.

Best authentic Chinese food in Vancouver. Good price and very good costumer service!

VERY TASTY. Expensive but GOOD. One of the best chinese restaurant still around. The shredded chicken is addictive! The sago pudding must eat hot - so good also the bbq pigeons is one of the best in Vancouver. Looking for a chinese restaurant? MUST GO HERE or order on Fantuan and other food delivery apps or call in for pick up - pay with credit card, debit or cash. No minimum but well minimum you expect to spend is at least $25 and up for any dish.

One of the more delicious foods can be got here. Don't miss the jelly fish cold dish, and their Taro Duck.
Very busy restaurant, definitely needs reservations. Very limited parking, but pay parking along Fraser St is available.

My wife and I have been going to Koon Bo Restaurant for close to ten years.  Their house special hand-shredded chicken (cold plate), West Lake beef soup, and their Pudding with Taro and Lotus Seed Paste dessert are consistently delicious.  The honey garlic beef with walnuts is tasty.  The owner, Suki, and the manager, Wing, are hardworking restaurateurs who care about the quality of their food and service.   You will find parking on the streets around the restaurant.  We appreciate having the complimentary sago pudding at the end of our meals.  This restaurant has been around for close to two decades because of the great Chinese food that they serve.

Authentic Chinese cuisine. Food is delicious and if you come here you have to try their chicken appetizer with the crispy pieces on top. Service may sometimes be slow as the entire place gets packed and only 2 servers working it seems.

Best pigeon in town but everything is incredible (my favourite is the shredded chicken). I've been going here for years and the quality of food is always spot on.

lovely food and atmosphere, awesome tasting king crab.

Good service and food! Really enjoyed their dim sum menu. I would recommend it to anyone wanting morning dim sum! Good food and pricing!

The chicken salad, fried pigeon and the wintermelon soup is to die for. Highly recommended

Good food and good service. Love the jellyfish salad and the crab! Definitely coming back

Everything was good! Duck was slightly more salty than I would like but still very good.

Delicious food and friendly staff. Definitely will come up.

Fabulous Peking duck and a cold shredded jellyfish and chicken salad dish with strips of fried dough.  I loved the food except for rice with egg and shrimp. It was so so.

Try the chicken and jellyfish salad, Peking duck, and crab with salty duck egg. Oh and the baked tapioca pudding. Good food and friendly service.

The food is excellent and authentic. You know it's going to be a great place when it's packed at dinner time with Chinese people loved up to eat there.

A legendary restaurant with a lot of stories. Some good food we have enjoyed over any years.

Super friendly staff and the duck was solid. Looks like they have a new dim sum menu too.

Been coming here for ages, their dishes are always consistent, one of our all time favorite is the shredded chicken dish.

My favorite place to eat!
