Reviews:
This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Placer county. The beef in the Mongolian beef recipe is thick and flavorful. The overall preparation of the food is above par. You can tell this food is made when ordered. This is my go to Chinese spot.
Cute little restaurant. The food was amazing and cooked fresh not 1/2 already made just add sauce. I hate to give this place such a good review because it will always be packed and hard to get in but it was that good. Definitely our new place
This is some of the best Chinese we've had here in Rocklin! It opened during Covid and we did take out but it was very early days for them. Somewhat disappointed in the take out serving size ... BUT .... Recently we have given it a few more try's ... ( cause my daughter is obsessed with their eggplant dish) it never disappoints in quality of food ...size of serving ... super friendly staff... let's not forget this place !! It's so yummy and ask anyone that knows me ... I'm picky
Great food and service. Food is always fresh! Fish filets & bbq fried rice is delish!
Ordered broccoli beef, mu shu pork, pork fried rice, sweet and sour pork, stir fried green beans, tomato beef crispy noodles- everything was so delicious! Tasty and as good as anything we could get in the Bay Area. So glad to find this authentic Chinese restaurant in the area! Definitely will eat here again!
Hidden gem!! Good and service was phenomenal. Glad we tried. We will sure be back! Thank you!
The best hot and sour soup we've ever had! The flavor is unreal and the spice level is just right. We have to order our own because no one wants to share!
My husband and I decided to try Joy House last night. The food is delicious! We had the homemade pot stickers, broccoli beef and the Hong Kong crispy noodles. The pot stickers were cooked perfectly. The beef was tender. We will definitely be back.
Tasty, Authentic Chinese Food for Belinda C's UYE [Rocklin CA]
I've since returned here twice since Belinda introduced Joy House to our group of 12. The first time I dined here I had the Mongolian Beef and it was delicious. I've also tried the Beef Broccoli and the Salt & Pepper Chicken. All lunch specials are served with soup and rice. Soup is Hot & Sour soup.
The Mongolian Beef was not spicy which I loved. Joy House was the first and only one I know that served non-spicy Mongolian Beef. Love at first bite... "wowwoww! that's tasty"
The first thing I loved about the Beef Broccoli was the broccoli!! Small bite-size florets with so much crunchiness. Mmm! The dish was loaded with fresh broccoli, tender flavorful beef, and the best stir fry sauce... I asked for fried rice and they were able to substitute the white rice with brown rice. Sesame Balls came with the meal.
While I was really craving for crispy fried chicken I did not see it on their menu so I ordered the Salt & Pepper Chicken. This was just okay. It wasn't filled with flavors as the other dishes I tried beforehand, maybe because I opted to leave out the 'pepper' ¡¥\_('~')_/¡¥ The meal came with Wonton Chips & Sweet & Sour Sauce.
Miranda was the wonderful server for all three of my visits. I came back another time to purchase 4-pc Bowl Sets. Loved the designs. The owner of Joy House was a former cook for Chef Chu's in Los Altos. Well, no wonder I love their food!
The place is very clean, delicious food and people are welcoming! Authentic Chinese food!
Love that this restaurant has a chef that actually knows how to cook Chinese food, not just add canned sauces to the same 3-4 ingredients.
Yelp for the win today. We were in search of Chinese food and happened upon Joy House. We are not local to the area so relied on reviews. We were pleasantly surprised from the minute we walked in. Our server (so sorry I forgot her name) was so friendly and very helpful with what we should order. The first thing I noticed on the wall were photos of the chef which was promising. It's a small quaint location and very inviting. The food was so delicious. We had hot and sour soup, lemon chicken, salt and pepper squid, fried rice, garlic green beens, beef chow fun and Mongolian lamb (I don't recall ever seeing lamb on the menu at a Chinese restaurant so another win for us). If you are in the area and are craving Chinese food, stop by Joy House. You will not be disappointed.
Joy House is located in a plaza with ample parking, though the lot can become busy at certain times of the day. We arrived shortly after opening hoping to beat the lunch crowd on a Saturday. Upon entering the restaurant we were almost immediately greeted by the server, making us feel instantly welcomed.
Just after we were seated we were handed menus and offered water. Three types of hot tea (jasmine, black, and green) are also available and complimentary with your meal. I enjoyed the jasmine tea on this cool, rainy morning.
Now let's get to the food. The braised eggplant in garlic sauce (with ground pork added) was excellent, as was the salty fish chicken fried rice. I ordered a side of brown rice and it was cooked perfectly.
Noodles of all kinds are my comfort food, so I was glad to find many different kinds of noodles on the menu. The chicken chow mein (a bit greasy for me), the chow fun with spicy beef and basil (also a bit greasy for me), and the Taiwanese style rice noodles were flavorful and well-prepared. The fried rice and noodle dishes all had the distinct charred, smoky flavor--a sign that the chef has mastered the skill of wok cooking.
My husband thought the tomato beef crispy noodles (his all-time favorite) was one of the best he has ever had. The candied pecans with jumbo prawns were excellent--large prawns in the traditional mayonnaise-based sauce with a hint of citrus, perfectly toasted pecans, and a few chunks of fresh apple. He would reorder both these dishes in a heartbeat. The sesame chicken, requested by one of our kids, was the only dish we would likely not reorder.
If you're like me and sometimes wonder if the lunch special means a smaller portion, you'll be glad to know that the lunch specials are served in generous portions at Joy House. The specials also come with a tasty hot and sour soup as well as two sesame balls--imagine a chewy and slightly sweet doughy exterior filled with a bit of sweet red bean paste. Both were welcome additions to our meal.
The dining experience at Joy House is enhanced by the pleasantly decorated interior--beautiful wall art, paper lanterns, plants, and even delicate textile pieces on the tall windows that allowed just the right amount of sunlight in, adding to the inviting atmosphere.
We have experienced consistently friendly and attentive service on our visits. Our server at lunch today recognized us from our prior visit a week ago. On one rather busy afternoon, we saw one server take care of at least 4 tables alone, and she took the time to make the guests feel well attended to.
Lastly, my husband who has somewhat of a sensitive stomach has noticed that he has never experienced any stomach discomfort following the meals at Joy House. Today was our third visit this month and it has already become our favorite spot for Chinese, Taiwanese, and Hunan cuisine. Looking forward to future visits as there are more menu items I am eager to try.
Me and my wife came here for a UYE hosted by our fellow elite Belinda . As we got here , half of the expected invitees weee here already. This was my first time dining here . Although I see these restaurant a few times but never got a chance to eat here. Anyway as we got here, besides being greeted by our host , our server also greeted with a very welcoming smiles she was right on top of things from providing water and checking who had us that gave our order ahead of time .
My wife had the Mongolian beef and she said it was very good . I had the sesame chicken. It was tasty and both our meal came with the fried rice. At the end of our brief fellowship, the owner also came out , greeted and thank us for coming . Great job Belinda let's do this again sometime.
A wonderful venue with floor to ceiling windows (bring shades for sun blocking). A couple of tables outside, too. Our table shared all of our dishes. I loved the yu shang shredded pork and the pork fried rice was absolutely one of the best I've had. Sesame balls surprised me since I don't really like sesame seeds.
Service was great. The restroom is imperfect (floor rough, bowl needed attention, exposed cleaning supplies and a lock that didn't hold but I'm sure will be fixed since they didn't know). The restaurant itself was clean and I loved the full length windows. Parking was plentiful on a Saturday at lunch.
I look forward to returning to have their Chef Chu style Chinese chicken salad. That's a simple but delightful salad I remember eating like it was last week, but it's been many years! So long, I forgot that was a dish of theirs that I loved!
Chef is from Beijing. That brought back fond memories of my hubby and my expat years there years ago. Both of us ordered the lunch specials. My eggplant with garlic main dish was spot on. Hubby enjoyed his sweet and sour pork. Both came with hot and sour soup, rice and sesame balls for dessert. Hubby was raving over his pork fried rice. Yes, it was very yummy. We will be back. Service was efficient but it was a quiet work day. Will try again on a weekend.
Delicious Chinese Food! Their Won Ton Soup is awesome. We often order this for takeout; they are so generous with their portions & it is filled with delicious, fresh vegetables. They pack the broth & won tons separately from the vegetables so that you can put it together at home! So generous & So Delicious!!! We ordered takeout lunches a few weeks ago. They were so kind to add the soup to our order, as their menu does say soup is not included with lunch takeout. Very Thoughtful!!! We had enough food to feed an army with the 2 lunches we ordered! I LOVE their Sesame Balls!!! They are a traditional Chinese favorite. They include them with their lunch as well!!!
Delicious! Beef chow fun was amazing and the eggplant garlic was my favorite! I will come back!!!
Best Chinese food plus GREAT service
I eat at the Joy House every Wednesday
The owners are from the south Bay area.
Authentic Chinese food is provided.
It could be my favorite Chinese restaurant in Placer county area.
The food was delicious, service was great, with a warm and cozy dining room! My husband and I will definitely be back!
Great kung pao, tasty fried rice. This place hits the spot. Would recommend this to all of my friends and family
I love how the chef has taken Chinese Cuisine to another level. Top quality dishes each savoy saucy in each bite. Hot and Sour Soup was mushroom filled with hints of white pepper. Yum. Crispy veggie egg roll. Prawns in Lobster Sauce, exceptionally and taste. Almond Chicken then TangerineChicken. Yum yum.
Service is excellent as well. Our server was pleasant and informative. Our meal was delicious with the food being served 5 star.
Really good food, excellent quality, and very friendly service! The Yu-Shang shredded pork is wonderful, and the lunch special is a great deal.
Tried Joy House for the first time in Rocklin and was quite pleased with them. Plenty of food and with leftovers for another meal and sharing with my neighbor. I will definitely be going back when I want Chinese food again.
We ordered Mushu pork and Kung pow chicken, and wonton soup. All three dishes had amazing flavor. The vegetables were fresh and not over cooked. The service was great. Our server was so sweet and very conscientious.
Best Chinese food in Sacramento! Not the usual brown sauce over everything. Nice family run restaurant. Highly recommend!
Local Authentic Chinese in Rocklin! Their Mapo tofu is the best and my husband loves their garlic eggplant.
A little bit of Chinatown in Rocklin. Noticed their new business banner driving by one day and decided to give them a try. I'm glad that I did.
We stopped in at the end of lunchtime and had a pleasant meal. The atmosphere was friendly with a familiar family vibe. The service was exceptional. We enjoyed the shrimp chow mein, seared black pepper steak, fried rice and pot stickers. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. The heat level of the pepper steak was right on (just the right amount of spice). The shrimp chow mein did not skimp on the shrimp. We definitely will be returning to this restaurant.
We were very happy with the take out and the service! Food was great! Fast service and tons of fortune cookies
So good! Mongolian beef, yu shang pork, hot and sour soup, bbq pork fried rice and chow mein. All colorful dishes full of flavor! Finally a good Chinese restaurant in the area!
Food like no other Chinese restaurant anywhere in this area. Fresh, and I mean fresh to order. No frozen meat used. Kung pao, Mongolian beef, tangerine chicken, black pepper beef, all amazing in taste. Delivered hot to your table but not necessarily at the same time. Be prepared to eat your selection one at at time as that is the only way my 5 visits to this wonderful place does it.
Service is real slow for order taking and water/drink replenishment.
Chef is a professional. Seems like they have a small kitchen for the volume. Regardless of the service, this place is an undiscovered gem.
I use to think I needed to travel to Sacramento or San Francisco for some authentic Chinese food. I'm excited Joy House is right in my backyard! We ordered the Sizzling rice soup - it was full of flavor with tender chicken and vegetables. I was pleasantly surprised on their Spicy beef chow fun, it was delicious and not too "spicy". And, their Mongolian beef is definite must. Very nice decor. Service was great. My family will definitely will be back.
Joy House is our new favorite local Chinese restaurant. Happened to try this place when Bambu was closed, and was super pleased with the food and service. We tried the garlic cucumber, yu shang pork, Beijing pork noodles (Zhejiang mein), egg rolls, pan fried wonton, eggplant, spicy beef noodle soup, and Mongolian beef. They also gave us fried mochi balls on the house, along with hot sour soup.
The stand out dish was the Mongolian beef. Saut¨¦ed with excellent wok flavor. The Yu shang pork was also flavored so well. The beef noodle soup was actually a little too concentrated, but the tendon and beef so tender. The garlic cucumber had the essence of Sichuan peppercorn, but without the spice. It was magic. The eggplant was so tender and saucy, Beijing noodles had an authentic sweet bean sauce, and the pan fried wontons hand made and absolutely delicious.
Come check this place out. The owners are super hospitable. Decor lovely. Food authentic. Worth trying and making your new favorite spot. Yum!
Left overs you'll love to eat! This is a family owned restaurant in a nice location. The food is prepared by a chef who knows Chinese food having worked at "Chef Chu's" in Los Altos for 20 years. Everything we had was authentic and delicious. The steamed pork buns were fantastic. I usually prefer baked but the dough on the steamed was amazing. I would easily compare the food quality to fats if not better.
Check the tangerine chicken if you like spicy, Kung Pao type meals. The combo fried rice had a flavor to it that I haven't tasted in years. It was an added bonus to see their children tagging along with their parents. I love that. I'll be back again and again. (I copied this from a review I wrote on Google for time sake)
My daughter and I ate here and we loved it. Food was good so as the server. Very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately I forgot her name, but she made out experience so much better.
