Reviews:

This place did not disappoint -- it's some of the best Chinese food in Portland. This is not your traditional Chinese restaurant, so if you're looking for the uninventive beef with broccoli, orange chicken, etc. this is probably not your place.
I wanted to eat so much of what was on the menu. My husband and I split the steamed soup dumplings, the pan fried pork dumplings, and the beef chow mein. Everything was fantastic. I'm still thinking about those soup dumplings...wow!
Service was fine, the space is clean and not super big. I would make a reservation in the future. Prices were a little on the higher side, like I could really rack up the bill here, but the food was worth it. This restaurant even has a robot!

This place is probably the most delicious Chinese food you can find in the downtown Portland area. All the negative reviews about the service previously must've been from opening day because service was prompt and we didn't have to wait long for the food to come out. We also went during lunch on Saturday and the restaurant was decently full with other customers so I felt the service was pretty usual for a busy Saturday.
Food was kind of pricey with most dishes being around $20. If you want a variety of options without breaking the wallet I'd definitely recommend going with a big group. We were still able to find some $13 priced dishes and ordered those. We got an order of xlb and a plate of sweet and sour pork spare ribs with rice on the side. They charge $1 for a side of rice btw and hot tea is not complimentary. Xlbs were hot when they came out and packed with flavor and delicious soup. The pork spare ribs were coated with a crunchy floury exterior and covered in tangy sweet and sour sauce. Sooo good. I'm still thinking about them the next day.

This is my new favorite Chinese restaurant in Portland! Well, at least west of the river. And the fact that most of the other customers were Asian is a good indicator of the authenticity/quality.
To start with, they asked if we had a reservation (we didn't), but they still sat the two of us within a couple minutes; it was just before 6pm, so I think we just beat the dinner rush. The space is much smaller than I expected, and later arrivals did have to wait for awhile, so I suggest a reservation if you can.
Our order was taken within five minutes of sitting down, though they may have expected us to take more time looking at the menu, as we had to ask for water after ordering our food. But after asking, the water arrived quickly and refills were prompt. Service was generally good throughout the meal, the check arrived promptly after I asked for it, and it was about 45 minutes from sitting down to receiving the check; a perfect amount of time for us for this meal. I never felt like I was waiting an unusually long time for any aspect of the meal.
Now, the food. The amazing, wonderful food! Since we were meeting up with friends at 7pm, we decided to just do a few smaller plates to tide us over. We shared the pan fried pork buns (4 pieces, $9.95), the steamed buns (10 pieces, $12.95), and the beef chow mein ($12.95). We ordered both buns at the start, and added the chow mein after finishing the first set of buns, so the food arrived well spaced out.
The steamed buns arrived first, and were essentially bite sized soup dumplings. Very flavorful! The buns themselves were slightly chewy and delightfully soft, while the interior held just the right amount of soup, as well as a small ball of pork, if I remember right. This was definitely our favorite dish of the night!
Next up were the pan fried pork buns. These were not quite as good, but still very enjoyable. The bottoms were perfectly browned, and the meat-bun ratio was well balanced. I just preferred the bite sized nature of the steamed buns more; the pan fried ones are probably 3-5 bites each, and thus a bit more unwieldy. Still quite flavorful though, and they did not taste overwhelmingly fried. The chow mein too was very tasty, with the noodles slightly underdone and a good mix of vegetable, meat, and noodle. A little more filling than the buns, this was a good dish to round out our appetizer night.
Overall, these three orders were a decent amount of food for two people to split, and came in at about $36. When reviewing the menu beforehand, we blanched a bit at some of the higher-priced dishes, but seeing other tables order them, they all appeared to have very hearty portions, and could easily be split between two people. The salty pork soup and the house special hot pot both were served in enormous bowls and likely could serve 3-4 from what I could see.
We will definitely be coming back to split some of the other dishes (with an order of steamed buns to start, of course)!

very delicious. i from shanghai, I feel this is the real taste from shanghai. The special point is that the taste make you feel home. This is shanghai home taste. The material they use have high quality.
And the environment is comfortable enough.

Loved it.  Great service, delicious food.  Ordered the yummy chili beef, soup dumplings, pan fried dumplings and noodles with cucumbers and chicken.
The owner, I assume it was the owner, came to our table to see what we thought of the food.  She told us the food was authentic Shanghai cuisine cooked by a Shanghai cook.
The robot who leads you to the table is a cute touch too!

Amazing Shanghainese food, loved the service. I would make a reservation because they fill up fast

Yes! We are so happy that this place opened! I've never been able to find drunken chicken before in Portland and here it is. Delicious legitimate Shanghainese food, steaming hot sheng jian bao, and actually, the best xiao long bao in the city, if I do say so myself. What a treat! The staff are also incredibly sweet and friendly. See you next week and the week after that!

One of the best Chinese restaurants in Portland. And my personal favorite! I especially love their fried rice and stirred fried vegetables. They are not overly oily, instead, they are fresh with excellent flavor! It seems to me they use very good ingredients. Plus, the service was great !

This place is incredible! Do yourself a favor and try it out! My husband and I didn't really like the spring rolls but that's just personal preference. Everything else was amazing down to the house chili oil they gave us!

This is a nice place to have a taste of the Shanghai cuisine in the metro Portland area.  We were there last night as a group of 10, and took up the big table at the deep end of the restaurant.  We had a chance to try a pretty good portion of the dishes on the menu, with some recommendations from the waitress as well.  Everything turned out to be great.  The service was excellent too.  We would certainly be coming regularly, and were already discussing our next visit near the end of our dinner.

So delicious! The fried fish was so good, and the pork belly in the brown sauce was absolutely delicious. It's a little bit more pricey but you can tell they use quality ingredients. I definitely reccomend getting the soup dumplings, they're the best I've found in town!!!

Authentic and delicious dishes.  Great service and nice atmosphere.  Love the Xiao Long Bao and braised pork shank.  Will definitely return soon
